Melissa Sarro is the Case Recoding Supervisor for NISR, and has been an integral part of the recoding program since 2007. In this role she has advanced both the recoding program's effectiveness and efficiency. To accomplish this she has led efforts to expand the participation by states in the State-specific Reporting (SSR) process. She has also coordinated with the Case Recoding Manager at NCSA and NHTSA's IT contractor to significantly advance the utility and efficiency of the SSR and Recode data reporting. As a case recoder, she has coded cases for multiple states, written State Specific Reports, and conducted the follow-up calls with the state supervisors, state analysts, and NHTSA. She helps analyze the data to determine where training is needed and assists in creating training materials for System-wide Trainings. She compiles all of the questions, concerns, and/or clarifications from the Recode Program, Quality Control, and coding questions and conducts research to determine the background needed for discussion and review at the annual FARS/CRSS Coding Manual meeting.
